Special thanks to these organizations who support the Lamar Public Library, and information about how the Lamar Public Library gives back to our community.

Lamar Rotary Club
Once a quarter the Lamar Rotary donates money to purchase children's books for the Lamar Public Library.

Sorosis
A federated women's group in Lamar that helps to raise funds to combat illiteracy, domestic violence, and other causes. In 2009 they gave the Friends of the Library a donation of $250.00 for the Lamar Literacy Fund and another $250.00 for the purchase of children's books. This fund was originally established in memory of Lynn Lefferdink and other individuals who avidly supported literacy and the Lamar Public Library for many years. Donations to this fund are ongoing and will help support  literacy programs in Lamar and Prowers County.

P3/P3Y (Prowers Prevention Partners/Prowers Prevention Partners Youth)
The Lamar Public Library is a coalition partner with the P3 group in Lamar and the director currently serves on the board. The P3Y youth meets once a month on the second Monday of every month for activities in the Cultural Events Center. Meetings are moved in April and October as the Friends of the Library has their Book sales during this time. The library hopes to build a stronger partnership by offering other programs with the P3Y.

Lamar Teen Center
The Lamar Teen Center helps host the Library's Book & a Movie program during the school year.

Libri Foundation

Once again the Lamar Public Library has received a Libris Foundation grant. Thanks to the Friends of the Library for providing the matching funds for the grant. Check out our new children's titles.

Huddleston-Butler Foundation

The Huddleston partner has been a supporter of the library for many years. They have generously given their money to support such projects as the Library remodel, purchase of books for all ages, computers, and other equipment needed to run the library. Without such partners as the Huddleston-Butler Foundation the library would be the 21st century library it is today. Thank you!

Esgar Foundation

The Esgar foundation joined as a partner in 2009. This partnership has allowed the library to replace old and outdated printers for both staff and patron computers. Their timely donation helped replace equipment we would not have been able to due to a tight budget year. Thank you.

Mary & Martha Ministry
Each October the Lamar Public Library helps support the local food bank by asking patrons to bring nonperishable food items in the amount of their fines.

American Cancer Society - Relay for Life
For the past two years the library staff and their families have helped raise money to support the Amerian Cancer Society and their Relay for Life event. In 2008 our team, Readers for Hope, was honored as a Bronze Team while raising around $1500.00. This year two teams sponsosred by the Library Board and Doc's Bail Bonds raised over $2,000 and increased the amount of laps we walked. We also won an incentive prize which we plan to use in a raffle contest to raise funds for next years walk. The Lamar Library Board also allows fines for one month in the spring to be collected and donated to the American Cancer Society. www.lamarrfl.org

Lamar Fire Department
Each year in late June and early July fines are collected and given to the Lamar Fire Department to support the fireworks display put on each year. Last year we raised around $275.00 and this year we hope to raise even more!!

Lamar Lions Club
The Lamar Public Library is also a collection site for the Lions Recycle for Sight Project. This project takes unwanted eyeglasses and helps others see better by refurbishing old glasses.
